The John Hinds Scholarship Award is presented in memory of the late Dr John Hinds, a man held in high regard as an inspirational leader by Paramedics/EMTs and indeed anyone with an interest in prehospital care in both Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland. Dr Hinds selflessly gave a huge amount of his own time to educating and supporting paramedics and ambulance staff on the island of Ireland and a scholarship for those colleagues is a fitting and practical way to preserve their memory of such a well-respected colleague and medical professional.
Galen is honoured to administer and present this scholarship award on behalf of Dr Hinds’ family, friends and colleagues for the fifth year, and does so in association with the College of Paramedics and the ATACC Group.

“It is a great honour to have been chosen for this wonderful scholarship in memory of an inspirational man who did so much work advocating for the people of Northern Ireland and the Paramedic profession.”
Shane Fahy- John Hinds Scholarship Recipient 2023
"Being the 2022 recipient of the Dr John Hinds award was a highlight for me in my paramedic career thus far. To have the unique opportunity to attend a fully funded spot on the ATACC course, and to wear that delta 7 patch in memory of Dr Hinds was particularly special. It gave me the opportunity to learn and refine both clinical, and non-technical skills, and experience high intensity situations with input and teaching from some of the world's finest critical care practitioners."
Barry Costello - John Hinds Scholarship Award Winner 2022
“The knowledge and experiences I gained from ATACC would have taken me years to gain by myself working on the road.”
