Charitable Work

5/10k in aid of Air Ambulance Northern Ireland

It was a record turnout at our 2024 charity Fun Run & Walk on Saturday 25th May with an incredible 1,045 registrations!

The Almac Fun Run & Walk was open to employees and members of the public and thanks to your help, we raised £13,162.30 with a donation from Almac to reach a total of £15,000 going directly to Air Ambulance Northern Ireland to fund their vital work.

The Swallows Head and Neck Cancer Support

Across the course of 2023, the Galen team fundraised for The Swallows Head and Neck cancer charity, to support its patient support line. Through various activities including a sponsored skydive, running challenges and a 12-hour Spinathon at our Craigavon HQ, the team raised over £3,000.

The Swallows Charity plays a crucial role in providing assistance, guidance, and a listening ear to those affected by head and neck cancer. With this donation, Galen hopes to contribute to its remarkable work, ensuring that patients and their loved ones have access to the support they need during their journey.

The Almac Grand Draw – Winning charities

This year’s Annual Draw raised an incredible £60,000 for our two chosen charities, Cancer Focus NI and Northern Ireland Chest, Heart & Stroke. The generous donations from Almac employees will enable these charities to continue to provide invaluable support to individuals living with illness and their families across Northern Ireland.

Irish health staff train more than 600 emergency doctors in Botswana

Galen is proud to sponsor volunteers from Global Emergency Care Skills in their humanitarian efforts to provide free workshops to healthcare professionals in Africa. These emergency care training sessions teach local medics life-saving procedures, which have directly contributed to real-life survivals.

Galen’s Medical Nutrition Scholarship

In 2021, Galen launched their Medical Nutrition Scholarship designed to support people with metabolic disorders, such as Phenylketonuria (PKU) and Tyrosinemia (TYR), in accessing further education, training and development courses or apprenticeships. The scholarship, which provides a student bursary of up to £2,000/€2,500 towards education or training course support and a technology bundle, is available to applicants 16+ years old throughout the UK & Nordics and has recently been extended to German & Austrian regions through POA Pharma GmbH.

John Hinds Scholarship Award

Galen, in collaboration with The College of Paramedics, is proud to offer the Dr John Hinds Scholarship Award. This scholarship, which launched in 2018, honours the late Dr John Hinds, an inspirational leader to paramedics, emergency medical technicians, and anyone interested in pre-hospital care in Ireland. Dr. Hinds, a world-renowned critical care physician, dedicated much of his time to educating and supporting paramedics and ambulance staff across the Island of Ireland. Each year, the recipient will earn a place on the prestigious Anaesthesia Trauma and Critical Care (ATACC) course and have their case study published in the College of Paramedics’ magazine, ‘Paramedic INSIGHT’.
